Gingerbread house – the recipe

For the dough

  • 500 g flour
  • 100 g sugar preferably whole cane sugar
  • 2 tbsp gingerbread spice OR 2 tsp ground cinnamon,1/4 tsp ground coriander seeds, 1/8 tsp cloves powder, 1/8 tsp star anise powder, 1/8 tsp cardamom powder, 1 pinch of mace powder
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 200 g honey
  • 2 dl milk

For the icing

  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • ½ - 1 egg white
  • A few drops of lemon juice


For the gingerbread

  • Preheat oven to 180°C
  • Mix flour, sugar, spices and baking powder
  • Add honey and milk and knead well
  • On a baking tray lined with parchment paper, spread out the dough about 1 cm thick or cut out in any desired shape.
  • Bake at 180°C for about 20 minutes
  • Then cut into any shape and decorate as you like. With sugar icing, sugar beads, almonds etc.

For the icing

  • Mix well all the ingredients
    Pour the icing into a small plastic bag and then cut off a small corner. You can then use it to decorate the house.
